Spartan Super Malaysia 2016

If you are OCR junkies like us, then you probably already know what is Spartan Race and what is Trifecta.

To complete a trifecta (we called it Spartan Pizza), one must complete all 3 different distance Spartan Races, which is Sprint, Super and Beast in same calendar year.
*Spartan has been lenient to us Malaysian, as last year Sprint could be count as part of trifecta. Some said this break their own principal, some were cheering for this, some were just doubt because they couldn't make all 3 race in a year yet, bla bla bla~ *
We already earned our Sprint medal piece last year, and the Super medal piece on last weekend!!! Just the last piece leave for upcoming Beast!!!

Pre-race

Some work harder to prepare for the race, some already start tapering.

As usual, we were very active in all sort of freebies challenge, games, events etc.
We are lucky enough to get selected by FitAID Malaysia to run as TeamFitAIDMY on the race day. 6 out of 8 real steel were selected, the other 2 lost their chance at the beginning as busy schedule and missed the due date for it! Urgh!!

We got our FitAID swag kit a week before Spartan Super, it has a T-shirt, towel, temporary tattoo, and TWO BOTTLES OF FITAID!!! Oh yes~ And also voucher for Gravy Factory and Lifestyle Chiropractic LLP.

Race day - Registration, baggage drop, flag off

Our heat time is 8.15am, it is consider 4th wave if they flag off Men Elite at 7am, then open heat at 7.30am. However, I got this feeling that it gonna delay like last year. And i hate it when something not good to be predicted.

The parking area is those industry and office block area beside the venue. It is free, but also limited. When we leaving, we saw a lot of people actually parked their car beside down the main road far far away!! Luckily Nic, shwuni, my bro and I was carpool, and we did free up 3 carparks for others! Lol~ syok sendiri~

We gather at the carpark area with Wyekit, Yongyao, Finfin and Szuemay, then only walk to the registration site. The venue actually is constructions site and beside the newly built residential area, so we have to walk quite a distance into the race registration site. Me always so kiasu, i printed the waiver forms, the registration slip and wrote my bib number on it, everything well-prepared!! If possible please do so as it will ease the registration process, volunteers will be easier to find your race pack.

We head to FitAID recovery booth to "equip-up" and warm up!

Baggage drop is not too efficient, they just wrote the number on the tag, but the tag itself is non-water resistant and very fragile. My bro's tag came off even before the race started. Luckily it happened, so all of us did remembered our bag drop number (this prove to be useful after race and baggage collection)!

As I expected, it delay!! When we arrived, they have not flag off for Men Elite yet!!! #@$&*^%$#@#$%
With this extra waiting time, we just mingling around and do more warm up! Lol~
It  delayed about 30mins, so we eventually flag off at 8.45am (my watch time, official time is 8.41am).

Race day - Course

This is Spartan Super, total distance would be around 13km, with 30+ obstacles!! And we really lost count on how many we actually did through the course!
One thing we do know, is banyak LONGKANG to jump over! T.T And I seriously doubt that are they count those trenches as obstacles as well? Hmmm~
Those trenches really slow us down as participant piling up waiting to jump over/slide down and climb over.

Compare to Sprint last year, some obstacles are repeated, no surprise on these. And I can say I did quite well if compare to Sprint.
There are some extra challenging obstacles such as Tyrolean traverse and much more obstacles that i can't recall it's name! >.<
For Super, with helps from teammate for some obstacles such the walls etc, I have failed to complete the multi-rig and spear throw just like last year!! ARGH~

Imma gonna rock you!

Similar to last Sprint, some participants were confuse what to do on each obstacles, volunteers have to shout their lung out and keep repeating for the whole day.
Please la, atleast go youtube watch some videos about overseas races, get the idea what to do and prepare to do the penalty - 30burpees for each failure!! Or some basic obstacles rules are here.

The before and "middle", not finish yet

Due to the Equinox warming by government, they have more water station, with minerals water and isotonic drinks. But I heard that was not so good luck for volunteers who manning on obstacles site, they can't get enough water and also have to work overtime under scorching sun. Kudos for the water station arrangement.

Volunteers were having tough duty this time, not only under the hot sun, but also many participants were out of control, not listening to instruction/not perform the correct way it should be. I saw some volunteers give their water to participant who asked for it, even they might be running out of water soon. Some of them are very cheerful, and energetic (my time was around 9am - 12pm). We are grateful and appreciate helps and cheers from volunteers! Cheers~

Race day - Finish Line

After the fire pit, you will get free coconut drink like last year. But this time, they help you to tear the cap off, I likey!! It will be difficult for us to open as our fingers probably all cover with muds and very slippery. We follow the flow Q-ing, thought to collect T-shirt, who knows that is for photo. Lol~ luckily one of the finisher come by and told us about this. We give up waiting just for photo and head to the festival zone to collect our finisher T. This year, they having very loose fitting compare to last year. Even XS is very loose for me! I can't imagine those finishers who complaint no more size at the noon session.

The baggage drop was the worst nightmare for this Spartan race!!! Due to the losing tag, a lot of participant can't remember their numbers. They can only by telling roughly number and describe the outlook of the bag. Some bags were on floor, and very messy inside the baggage tent. Some participants even jumped in and looks for their bags themselves. The whole place was in chaos! Luckily we remembered our numbers and still we waited quite a long time, lost track of time as we keep shouting "there there, my bag" "Purple color backpack" etc! Lol~

One thing does improve is the shower area, this time it has more shower station and the water pressure is strong enough for us to spray off the mud and dirt. We just have a quick rinse off, went to the changing tent to change to our finisher T!!! *with proud face*

After we cleaned up, here comes the FitAID moment!! They have prepared ice cold fitAID for us to drink and chillax in the tent! I felt good after the race if compare to previous OCR. People from FitAID were offering great hospitality too, and they have very easy going photographers ever! I miss you...r photo bro! Lol!! Thank you for running in the course to take photo for TeamFitAIDMY!!!

We finished and come back in 1 piece! Big smile for earning the 2nd piece of trifecta
